KIRA first began as an idea in the winter of 1998 as a way of acknowledging the Knowledge Industry in Fredericton. For the first three years, Knowledge Industry Recognition and Achievement Awards was a Fredericton area event; however, over time this event evolved to become the prestigious provincial wide recognition event that it is today. KIRA Gala will be held on May 7th, 2009 at the Delta. The nomination categories are as follows:
